Souk El Had is Agadir’s great market: more than 3,000 stalls spread over 13 hectares behind tall gates, used by residents and visitors alike (Generation Voyage). Its name means “the Sunday market” in Arabic. You will find fresh produce, spices, textiles and crafts. Here is how to get there by car and plan your visit.
Where is Souk El Had?
The market is in the Sidi Youssef district, on avenue Abderrahim Bouabid (OpenStreetMap), about 3 km from the city centre and 3.5 km from the beach by road. The distances below start from the souk; each destination opens the route in Google Maps.
- Agadir centre≈ 3 km · 5 min
- Talborjt≈ 2 km · 5 min
- Agadir beach≈ 3 km · 10 min
- Founty≈ 4 km · 10 min
- Agadir Al Massira Airport≈ 20 km · 25 min
Opening days
The souk is closed on Mondays, its cleaning day (Le Matin), and during the Eid holidays. On other days it opens from the morning until late afternoon; published hours vary between sources and Sunday may be shorter, so go in the morning if you want to take your time.
Driving there and parking
From the centre, head to avenue Hassan II and follow signs for the souk: it is only a few minutes’ drive. There are car parks around the market (Generation Voyage); the surroundings are busy, so allow a little time to find a space and choose a supervised car park.
City buses and petits taxis also serve the souk, but with bulky shopping a car parked nearby is the easier way home.
What can you find at Souk El Had?
Fruit and vegetables, spices, traditional textiles and crafts share the lanes, and each main gate opens onto a different area of the market (Generation Voyage). It is an everyday market for locals as much as a visit for travellers.
- Fresh produce: fruit, vegetables and local products.
- Spices and regional products.
- Traditional textiles.
- Crafts and souvenirs.
Tips for your visit
- Note the gate you come in by: it will help you find your car on the way out.
- Keep your belongings close in the busiest lanes.
- Haggling is part of the visit: compare a few stalls before you buy.
- After the souk, the beach is only about ten minutes away by car.
